If you were hoping to hop on the LRT3 by New Year’s Day, you’ll need to hold on to your Touch ‘n Go cards a little longer. As of December 30, 2025, Prasarana Malaysia Berhad has confirmed that the Shah Alam Line will not begin operations this year. Instead, residents can expect a final status update in January 2026 as engineers work to stabilize the system’s software.
During a media engagement session on December 29, Prasarana’s Head of Operations for the Shah Alam Line, Mohd Ariffin Idris, shared that the project is currently in the Fault-Free Running (FFR) phase. This is a rigorous test mandated by the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD).
What we know so far:
- The Delay: Issues with signalling and software stability have pushed the launch from the original Dec 31, 2025 target into Q2 2026.
- The Test: There are 22 trains in the fleet. Each must complete a 4,000km “Golden Train” endurance run without a single failure.
- The Progress: Currently, only 3 out of 22 trains have successfully hit the required distance benchmarks.
